Please get involved with this if you can...

The Dobogai family's son Derek was just a few years older than Elise. We have spent many hours hiking Rienzi, and have spent time at Derek's final resting place. It is very beautiful and peaceful. This weekend, we have the opportunity to remember Derek and his heroism. This is neat folks...if you want to walk (or run) with us, you are welcome.

Second Annual Captain Derek Dobogai Memorial Run/Walk

Organizers of run/walk event that remembers a former Winnebago Lutheran Academy graduate who lost his life in Iraq are hoping for a good turnout this Labor Day weekend. The 2nd Annual Captain Derek Dobogai Memorial Run/Walk will be held at the WLA track this Saturday. Derek and 14 other American soldiers were killed when their Blackhawk helicopter crashed in northern Iraq in August of 2007. His mother Lisa says seeing Derek's army buddies during the event brings back good memories. This year a Blackhawk helicopter will be landing on the football field and they will also be collecting packages and donations of items for packages for deployed soldiers. Proceeds will be split between the WLA Track fund and the Wounded Warrior Project. Registration begins at 7 a.m. There will be 10K and 5K runs, a 5K walk and runs for children. There's also a raffle with a week's stay at the Grand View Las Vegas Hotel the top prize. For more information about the walk click here.
