FdL High School produces classic comedy 'Harvey'

Fond du Lac High School will present the story of a man and his rabbit.

Students will perform "Harvey" at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10-12 at Fond du Lac High School PAC, 801 Campus Drive. Tickets cost $6 for adults, $4 for students and are on sale at the school's main office.

Mary Chase's classic play features Elwood P. Dowd and his imaginary friend, a 6½-foot white rabbit named Harvey.

When Dowd starts introducing Harvey to guests at his niece's coming out party, Dowd's sister, Veta, decides she's had enough of his eccentric behavior. She decides to have him committed to a sanitarium, according to an event press release.

Problems arise when Veta shares her story with the doctors, and they have her committed instead of Dowd. When the truth comes out, the search is on for Dowd and his imaginary friend.

It turns out Dowd's mild-mannered delusion influenced more than one person.

Only in the end does Veta realize Harvey may not be so bad after all.

"Harvey" was cast less than two weeks after Fond du Lac High School finished its last production, "Bye Bye Birdie." Director Steve Wilson said rehearsals started after Thanksgiving 2010.

Casting proved difficult as more than 60 children auditioned for the 12 main parts, he said. Participating students include Ellen Fee, Ellie Thelen, Kyle Baldauf, Mandy Schmidt, Liz Wustrack, Brooke Zauner, Ben Giles, Jon Koehler, Marty Ryan, Jaime Mortier, Trevor Clementi and Jimmy Jewson. The supporting cast includes Aaron Baldauf, Bob Shepherd, Casey Wilson, Sam Konen, Val Wentland and Shavanna Talbert.

"We hope that the community will come out and support these young performers," Wilson said.

Elle is off to play practice and Aliyah and I are thinking about going to watch for a little while. Elle and Jon plan to make peach cobbler after, and we've picked out some movie 'oldies' for tonight:) I love Netflix...we can get some favorites which are hard or impossible to find in the video stores. Great day so far...

We enjoyed the snow day this morning with freshly squeezed OJ, BLTs on homemade bread and hash browns:) We also got plenty of exercise blowing and shoveling snow at 3 houses. Thanks to Aliyah for the welcome home sign...she spent last evening with us, but went home for today's snowday, as Minnie had off also. It was nice to sleep in. Congrats to Fondy's FINE musicians!

Congratulations to the members of the Fondy Jazz Band and Elle's Jazz Combo:) They won top honors (1st.place) in Green Bay this weekend. Elle also won 'honorable mentions' for her solos. Kudos to all and especially Mr. Shipe for a great performance! The schools that participated were:

Calm between the storms...

I got home easily, with help from James who booked me an earlier flight as to miss the blizzard due to start this afternoon. It was very nice to have the time away in 60-70 degree sunshine. Belated birthday wishes go out to niece Natalie and my nephew's wife Greta. Hopefully, I will get to visit with Nattie's Connecticut family in April when her new sister arrives:) I'm just heading out to do a little shopping before we are home bound for the next few days. While the snow may be a headache in a lot of ways, it surely is beautiful!
